Festival Souvenirs

When I was planning the festival I knew I wanted the artists to leave something behind for posterity. At Toonfest in Marceline, the artists sign the Disney Inspiration Barn and also the hotel walls in the Uptown Theatre Bed and Breakfast:

Mel Lazarus has a famous piano that a plethora of cartoonists have drawn on:

(We have a baby grand piano that is a horrible shade of lime green/yellow that we could have had folks draw on but then we would be forced to keep it forever. Not our current plan.)

And, at Cathy Guisewite's house in LA, the artists signed a miniature piano and a giant pot.

What to do, what to do.

Then it hit us. We have a number of bricks and pieces of fieldstone that would serve perfectly. We plan to eventually rig up some sort of plate hanger contraption so we can mount them on the wall. And the added bonus is that they are portable and can be displayed wherever we wish.

So here are the souvenir bricks and stones that our cartooning guests drew for us, enjoy!

  1. Wait, Tom Bancroft was there? Now I'm extra sorry I couldn't go. I would've loved to have seen him again (we went to school together).

You're piano cracked me up. I have plenty of undesirable pieces of furniture that I would think twice about having to keep as a piece of art.

  2. Yes, Tom graciously stepped in when Michael Jantze had his surgery. Michael will be at the next festival.

The piano is a problem. We'd like to get rid of it but no one seems to want to buy it :-) Maybe I should have had cartoonists draw on it after all to sweeten the pot.....

Sorry you couldn't come up - we hope to see you next year!
